I wanted to take this opportunity to congratulate you again on the outstanding ALMA inauguration ceremony last week and all the work that AUI has done to make ALMA a world-class observatory. Your team, in particular Eduardo Hardy, did an excellent job in organizing the event. The inauguration was particularly impressive given the number of international invitees, ALMA’s unique location, and the complicated technical and logistical aspects of the ceremony. Your and Eduardo’s hard work on planning the event will pay dividends as we continue to spread the word about U.S. astronomy investments in Chile. Ultimately, the science that will come from ALMA will be a lasting testament to the U.S. and international commitment to the technical, organizational, and diplomatic work required to make ALMA a reality.
I especially appreciate AUI’s support for my travel to participate in the ALMA ceremony. Our presence highlighted the importance that the U.S. Government places on the ALMA facility, specifically, and on astronomy in Chile more generally.
Again, it was wonderful to accompany you, Eduardo, and the rest of the AUI and ALMA team in marking this important milestone for international science collaboration in Chile. Thank you for your ongoing work t advance U.S. astronomy in Chile.
