Project Appointments

Project appointments for the scientific staff may be made to individuals who are assigned full time to a project that has a limited and foreseeable duration. These appointments are for designated periods that end when the projects are completed or shortly thereafter. Project appointments may be made for the duration of the design, construction and start-up of a major scientific facility, or for direct participation in limited-duration projects funded by organizations other than the primary funding agency of the Research Center.

A project appointment may be made at the rank of Assistant Scientist, Associate Scientist or Scientist. Project appointments may be terminated through enforcement of sponsoring agency contractual provisions, for reasons of financial exigency, for reduction of project support, or for cause. Termination for cause may be effected only after a review by a Scientist Performance Review Committee (SPRC). Terminations in cases of financial exigency will be made only after consultation with a SPRC.
