Regular scientific staff appointments shall be classified as either a tenure track or a non-tenure track position. Tenure track positions are for PhD-level scientists who are expected to maintain cutting-edge research programs and to contribute the experience they gain from this research to the functioning of the Research Center. Non-tenure track positions are for PhD-level scientists who have research programs in their specialty and contribute primarily to the technical and operational functions of the Research Center.
Research Centers shall develop written criteria for each category, identifying the educational and experiential qualifications for these ranks. Written procedures shall also define the process by which Research Centers make decisions regarding the hiring and promotion of scientific staff. General definitions and qualifications for these positions are provided below.
